
Gary Powers, Jr.
Born June 5, 1965, in Burbank, California, he is the son of Francis Gary and Claudia E. "Sue" Powers. Gary holds a Bachelors' of Arts Degree in Philosophy from California State University, Los Angeles, and a Master's Degree in Public Administration / Certification in Non-profit Management from George Mason University (GMU), Fairfax, Virginia.
In January 2011, Gary was hired as Museum Director for the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach Museum. The mission of the museum is to increase the public's knowledge and appreciation of the wide variety of historic aircraft flow during the first half century of flight.
Prior to assuming a leadership position with the Military Aviation Museum, he was the Director of The Cold War Museum (2005 - 2010), which he founded in 1996 to honor Cold War veterans and preserve Cold War history.
As President for the Vienna-Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce between 2001 and 2005, Gary helped to strengthening the business and professional community in Tysons Corner and the surrounding area. In this position, he oversaw the day-to-day operation of the Chamber and organized quality events for Chamber members and the community.
Because of his efforts to establish The Cold War Museum, the Junior Chamber of Commerce selected him as one of the "Ten Outstanding Young Americans" for 2002. He lectures internationally and appears regularly on the History, Discovery, and A&E Channels.
Gary is married and has one son.

Francis Gary Powers, Jr. lectures internationally on the U-2 Incident, the need to preserve Cold War history, and how the Cold War impacts us today. He has arranged for the loan or donation of artifacts and exhibit material to American Government agencies (CIA, DIA, FBI, NSA, NRO), a variety of internationally recognized museums including the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, the USAF Museum, the KGB Museum, the Diefenbunker Museum and museums in Europe. He organizes a Spy Tour of Washington (www.spytopur.com) for groups of 30 or more. Past clients include Google Earth, The Association of Old Crows, and The National Association of Realtors.
Gary has worked with the Bulgarian, Czech, German, Hungarian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Romanian, and Slovakian Embassies to co-host annual receptions commemorating historical Cold War events and anniversaries. He has briefed dignitaries, military personnel, intelligence representatives, and various organizations on the mission and objectives of The Cold War Museum and the need to preserve Cold War history.
